What we do

The Friends support Chichester’s hospitals in three important ways:

1. By raising funds to buy equipment which enhances the medical facilities at St Richard’s Hospital and in mental health services.
2. By providing the daily Ward Trolley service and running the Friends’ Hospital Shop at St Richard’s Hospital, enabling patients, visitors and staff to buy everyday items on site at reasonable prices. A team of over 100 dedicated volunteers ensures that the trolley service operates every day except Christmas and some bank holidays and the Shop is open Monday-Friday. There are no salaried staff.  Income from this service has averaged between £45,000 and £60,000 in recent years.
3. By representing the interests of the local community, for example when changes in local NHS provision are under consideration.
