Patients with glaucoma will now be able to have their intra-ocular eye pressure diagnosed and treatment plan put in place in a one-stop clinic at St Richards Hospital, thanks to Friends of Chichester Hospitals. Previously, many patients have had to travel to Shoreham for treatment or have eye drops administered several times a day.
Glaucoma affects thousands of people in the local area with many overdue for follow-up appointments. Untreated glaucoma symptoms related to raised intra-ocular eye pressure can lead to irreversible sight loss. This new equipment will enable St Richards to fast track many of those affected and reduce the number of people requiring sight saving pressure related surgery.
Friends of Chichester Hospitals is able to provide funding to purchase equipment through kind donations by the public and their fundraising efforts. Run entirely by volunteers, Friends of Chichester Hospitals awards over 90% of its income directly to making a difference to patients and staff at St Richards Hospital and local mental health services.
If you would like to show your support for Friends of Chichester Hospitals so they can continue to provide funding for vital equipment and much more, you can join the recently launched Friends of Chichester Hospitals lottery – each entry costs just £1 and you could win up to £25,000!
